Dear all, Liebe Alle, chers tous,

Does someone have a concrete example about how language diversity can contribute to a better climate within the school community (parents included)? Thanks a lot.

Dear all,

an example in order to show how the language diversity can contribute to a better climate within the school community :

We celebrate the cultural and linguistic diversity of our school -Maynooth Post Primary School - each year with our International Day of Languages & Cultures. Parents are invited to hep students prepare their presentations and can also attend on the day. It's always a very colourful, vibrant, joyful day.

Now we have linked this event to the European Parliament Ambassador School programme (EPAS) which we have introduced this year. EPAS students are invited to interview students to find out more about their home countries and to do taster language lessons in many languages. This has helped to build links and friendships  between Irish students and international students and supports inclusion and integration.. It's also very affirming of the identity and self-esteem of newcomer students. We also invited EPAS students from another school in Ireland and also Syrian students from another school in the locality who are here in Ireland  under an EU Refugee Relocation programme. This brings EU actions e.g in the area of migration policies to life in a real, concrete way. Europe then becomes less remote and more meaningful.
