In the Istituto Comprensivo di Tirano there are about 830 pupils (from nursery to junior secondary school) and 95 teachers. 9,000 inhabitants live in the town. The Alpine valley where Tirano is situated is called Valtellina, it’s on the Swiss border with Engadin. Teaching and learning English and German are considered an essential part of education. Pupils start learning English at six and German at eleven. Students are offered extra courses in English and German (KET Esol Exam and FIT in Deutsch). the buildings of the Institute have an Internet connection and the classrooms are equipped with computers, interactive whiteboards and projectors, mainly obtained thanks to PON 2014/2020.
