I teach mainly adults who go on to teach English language to speakers of other languages. These are multilingual and multicultural students from around the world including from Europe.
As an African, originally from a country with more than 250 local languages, I am quite multilingual. My language of work is English but part of my education and professional life was in the medium of French. I am very proficient in all skills of English and an advanced level speaker of French.
Coming from a very multilingual background and with English and French as my languages of education, I am interested in the linguistic and cultural interactions between people from different linguistic backgrounds and in supporting intercultural awareness amongst young people around the world.
I am a researcher in different aspects of English language education for speakers of other languages including English medium instruction, early literacy, bilingual education and language teacher education. I have published substantially in these areas. I have worked as a consultant for UNICEF in sub-Saharan Africa and as an Expert for the Council of Europe, developing a Foreign language country policy profile for Albania.
My most recent project was the Foreign language policy profile for Albania. Currently I am working on a British Council Funded research project on Francophone multilingual young learners' strategies in English medium schools in Cameroon and on an English as an Additional Language project for immigrant children in the West of England.
- Access to any ECML related research particularly on English medium education
- Possibilities for partnerships with African countries which use European languages in the educational system
